Three in One (2/7)

This is the second of seven devotions I have written for d365.org. d365 has been a favorite resource of mine for over ten years. It has been a privilege to write for them! Please visit the website for the full d365 experience.

PAUSE
Our God is one – unity.
Our God is three – diversity.
Our God is three in one – mystery.
LISTEN
Genesis 1:1-2 (CEB)
When God began to create the heavens and the earth— the earth was without shape or form, it was dark over the deep sea, and God’s wind swept over the waters—
THINK
With every new thing there is a beginning. We often judge how new something is by the passage of time around it. Yet, “When God began to create…” there was no shape to things. There was no time by which to judge. There was only God, in the dark and deep places. “When God began” is the beginning of beginnings. All new things have sprung forth from this moment.
Can you think of a time you had a new idea spring up in your mind? Did you ever wonder where that idea came from? Most of the time we probably have no idea where it came from, only that it showed up. Perhaps it is in these moments that God’s wind is sweeping through us, stirring up something new for us to try. Perhaps it is in our new ideas that we are meeting God in a new way, too.
PRAY
God, beginner of all new things, help us be aware of the new things you are doing within us and around us every day. Give us courage to step into the scary, new places knowing that you will be there too, ready to make something out of it. Amen.
GO
Work for unity.
