A Litany for the New Year

This litany is inspired by Psalm 136 and written to be part of a worship service kicking off the new school year. In reflection, it became clear that this new school year represents so much more than the physical act of going to and from the school building, so I wanted to be sure to use words that represent the full meaning of a new year for all of us, no matter how that may look.

When we do not understand
    Your steadfast love endures forever.
When everything seems broken
    Your steadfast love endures forever.
When the future is uncertain
    Your steadfast love endures forever.

With each turn of the new year
    Your steadfast love endures forever.
With each hope of fresh starts
    Your steadfast love endures forever.
With each song of praise
    Your steadfast love endures forever.

Where we learn
    Your steadfast love endures forever.
Where we teach
    Your steadfast love endures forever.
Where we are One Body
    Your steadfast love endures forever.

Give thanks to the God of all creation
    Your steadfast love endures forever.
